A few years ago, I released the much loved Herringbone Baby Cardigan. Now, after too many years, I’m finally releasing the PULLOVER version of this pattern!
My favorite thing about the Herringbone Pullover is the pocket. It is super cute and gives such an adorable touch! What do you think?
Now this pullover uses a stitch called the Herringbone Stitch. It is simply a double crochet with a little twist to make it “bend”. So you get this really cool zig-zag pattern in your stitches.
Unfortunately, I haven’t found the time to put together my own tutorial yet, but I highly recommend this tutorial by Make and Do Crew.

The Herringbone Pullover is designed for ages 0-3 months up to 3T. I love that it can be made for all of these ages, and absolutely love how it looks on my sweet little big boy at 15 months.
The yarn I used for this pattern was Red Heart Super Saver, which is super accessible and can be found at Walmart! Red Heart With Love is a great replacement yarn, because it has the same gauge, but has a bit softer of a feel to it. You’ll also need a 4.5mm (7) crochet hook.
This pattern is written in a slightly different format than my other sweater patterns, so be sure to read the pattern notes before starting!

Herringbone Baby Pullover Pattern

350-620 yards worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn)
(see sizes below for correct yardage for each size)
1-2 yards of contrasting color in medium or bulky weight yarn
4.5 mm (7) crochet hook

Pattern Notes:
- Ch 2 at the beginning of each round is a turning chain and DOES NOT count as a stitch.
- Ch 1 in cuff rows is a turning chain and DOES NOT equal a stitch
- Please be sure to check the gauge before beginning this pattern. It will save you a lot of time and frustration.
- This pattern is only designed for babies and toddlers starting at 0-3 months and up to 2T-3T.
- Sweater was designed using Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. You can easily switch it out with a different worsted weight yarn by visiting yarnsub.com to find the best option.
- Pay attention to the listed patterns for each section. Patterns for 0-3 month, 12-18 month, and 2T-3T are worked in one pattern with different numbers of stitches to start. 3-6 month and 18-24 month are worked together in one pattern to start. And 6-12 month is worked in pattern by itself.
- Look for the word “Pattern” and check the sizes in parentheses before continuing.
- Sleeves will all be worked in the same pattern with parentheses to separate sizes.
- Wet blocking is not necessary for shaping this sweater, but you are welcome to do it. Acrylic yarn is pretty shapeable without wet blocking, so you may find that you are able to shape it without getting it wet.
- Use the following guide for how the number of stitches is communicated:
- The number before the stitch is the amount of times worked in one stitch
- The number after the stitch is the number of stitches you are to work that specific stitch into.
- When stitches are surrounded by asterisks (*), you are to repeat what is between the asterisks the amount of times stated.
- Number in parentheses is the number of stitches in each round.
- Eg. “*hbdc 5 (6, 7), 2hbdc* 10x, sl st to join, ch 2, turn.
