Free Crochet Pattern – Davy’s Striped Baby Pullover

Hi crochet friend!

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a new pattern, so I think it’s about time I did. Today, I’m sharing Davy’s Striped Pullover.

This pattern is super simple, but absolutely adorable! With just double and single crochet, this pullover is perfect for a beginner in making crochet sweaters.

I’ve had this pattern sitting in my back pocket for a few months now, and I just need to get it out to you. Especially since Fall is just right around the corner!

This pattern uses Red Heart Super Saver yarn, so you should be able to find it pretty well. Sometimes this yarn can feel rough. Just try washing it with a little fabric softener before you start the project, and I promise it’ll be super soft!

You will also need 2 hook sizes for this pattern: 5mm (H) for the body and sleeves of the sweater, and 4.5mm (7) for the border and cuffs. This is to make sure that the border and cuffs are slightly more snug than the sweater itself.

I had so much help from my testers with this pullover pattern! The sweater was designed while I was pregnant, and my brain clearly wasn’t working properly, so I am incredibly thankful for my amazing testers!!

Since they were able to provide me with all the feedback I needed to bring you the best pattern, I am so excited to share this great pullover sweater pattern with you today for FREE! 0-3 month all the way up to 12 months is FREE right here! Just scroll down and start making this sweater for your special little one.

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern is written for sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-12 months.
  • Pay attention to the gauge, because it is very important for the proper fit.
    • My crochet stitches tend to be tighter than most, so you may end up going down a hook size.
    • The brand of yarn can also result in a different gauge.
      • Use yarnsub.com to find the best substitute for yarn used in pattern.
  • This pattern uses the alternative double crochet stitch. You can find a tutorial for this stitch here or simply replace it with a chain 3 throughout.
    • The chain 3 will count as a double crochet if you choose this option.
  • For color changing technique, I recommend my tutorial on how to change colors in a round. This will give color changes a seamless look.
  • Follow the photos below for how to do edging and cuff:
  • All edging will be worked on the RS.
  • Use the following guide for how the number of stitches is communicated:
    • The number before the stitch is the amount of times worked in one stitch
    • The number after the stitch is the number of stitches you are to work that specific stitch into.
    • The Contrasting Color (CC) will always be done on the Right Side (RS)
    • Ch 1 throughout will NEVER count as a stitch.
    • When stitches are surrounded by asterisks (*), you are to repeat what is between the asterisks the amount of times stated.
    • Number in parentheses is the number of stitches in each round.
    • Eg. alt dc in first st, dc 7, 2dc, *dc 8, 2dc* 9x, sl st to join, turn. (100) means “work an alternative double crochet in first stitch, double crochet in next 7 stitches, work 2 double crochets in the next stitch, *double crochet in each of the next 8 stitches, work 2 double crochets in the next stitch * repeat the pattern between the asterisks 9 times, slip stitch in alternative double from beginning of round. (there are 100 stitches in this round)”
