Basic Baby Hat & Booties Free Patterns

Hi crochet friend!

My last post was the Penguin Baby Pullover, and this hat and booties set matches it just perfectly! They are simple and cute and will help add the perfect amount of cute.

I meant to post these patterns weeks ago, but something came up. Well, I felt super sick for about a month with no energy at all. But it wasn’t a bad thing! It’s because I’m expecting baby #6! We’re so excited!

And of course, that means the baby patterns are going to keep coming in the next few months. I have quite a few ideas, including an adorable baby blanket pattern that will be coming to you in the next month or so. Sign up for my newsletter to stay up to date!

Anyway, this pattern set is very basic and simple. It uses light weight yarn (I used Baby Bee’s Sweet Delight) to create a nice lightweight addition to any baby sweater.

Though these patterns were designed with the Penguin Pullover in mind, you can easily use a different color to pair them with another sweater like the Little Bean Cardigan.

Here is the adorable FREE pattern for you! Sizes 0-3 month up to Toddler!

Happy Crocheting!

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern is written for sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, and Toddler.
  • Pay attention to the gauge, because it is very important for the proper fit.
    • My crochet stitches tend to be tighter than most, so you may end up going up a hook size.
    • The brand of yarn can also result in a different gauge.
      • Use yarnsub.com to find the best substitute for yarn used in pattern.
  • This pattern uses the alternative double crochet stitch. You can find a tutorial for this stitch here.
  • Use the following guide for how the number of stitches is communicated:
    • The number before the stitch is the amount of times worked in one stitch
    • The number after the stitch is the number of stitches you are to work that specific stitch into.
    • Ch 1 will NEVER count as a stitch.
    • When stitches are surrounded by asterisks (*), you are to repeat what is between the asterisks the amount of times stated.
    • Number in parentheses is the number of stitches in each round.
    • Eg. alt dc in first st, dc in same st, dc 2, *2dc, dc 2* around, sl st to join, turn. (40) means “work an alternative double crochet in first stitch, double crochet in the same stitch where the alternative double crochet stitch was made, double crochet in the next 2 stitches, *work 2 double crochets in the next stitch, double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches* repeat the pattern between the asterisks around the circle, slip stitch in alternative double from beginning of round.
