Miss Olivia the Owl

My sweet little Lizzy has super big eyes, as you can see in the picture above. Everyone comments about how beautiful they are. And, though I may be bias, I’d have to agree! And that is why she is definitely part of my inspiration for Miss Olivia the Owl. I love those big eyes!

It’s always important to make sure that any owl you make has big eyes. I mean, really, how is it an owl if it doesn’t have big eyes? The answer is simple: it just isn’t. Anyway, sarcasm aside, this owl has big beautiful eyes and I love that.

I originally was going to use safety eyes that had a beautiful blue rim that I use for making dolls, but changed my mind after trying them out. These black safety eyes gave it just the right look, I think.

I know you’ll all love Miss Olivia. She is fun, cute, and cozy. I decided to put weighted beads in her, because I wanted her to be able to sit up. Sometimes it’s important to have a stuffed animal that will sit on its own, I think.

So go ahead, grab that yarn, hook, safety eyes, poly-fil, and weighted beads, and make the beautiful Miss Olivia the Owl.

Magic Circle

sc – single crochet

inv dec – invisible decrease

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

Gauge:

6 single crochets x 5 rows = 1 inch

Pattern Notes:

  • The body, feet, and wings will all be worked in continuous roundss. Do not slip stitch or chain at the end of each row, but put a stitch marker in the last stitch of every round to keep track of you place.
  • The eyes will not be worked in continuous rounds. You will slip stitch and ch 1 at the end of each round. I still put a stitch marker at the end of each row, however, because it can be hard to see sometimes.
  • The only part of the owl that will be stuffed is the body. Everything else will be flattened.
  • The feathers on the front of the owl are in the shape of a “V” can be as many or as few as you decide. Make it your own!
