It’s the second week in January, but I haven’t posted a new free pattern yet!! How about a quick and easy crochet hat to start of the year? Sound good? I thought so!
Since it’s January, winter is at it’s harshest, right? Well, maybe in the upper Midwest, but here in Nebraska, we have NO SNOW! It’s awful!
Ok, so I know many of you don’t like snow once Christmas is over (or at all), but hear me out. I grew up in Northwestern Minnesota where we would get tons of snow every year!
I remember building snowmen, igloos, and tunnels EVERY YEAR! Those are some of my favorite memories from childhood. We had so much fun!
Anyway, back to this beautiful hat! I was looking at the yarn at Walmart while getting all of our last minute items to buy for Christmas. When I saw this Hygge yarn from Red Heart, I was drawn to it!
It is sooooooo soft! And since it is a bulky yarn (size 5), it is warm. I highly encourage you to pick some up. Yarnspirations also carries this yarn! Woohoo!
And after buying a bunch of faux fur pom poms from Amazon, I decided a hat was needed to be made. So the decision became very easy: Mary must make a hat! (alliteration much?)
I hope you enjoy this pattern and can enjoy it while the weather is still cold…if it is…

Materials:
-1 skein Red Heart Hygge Yarn in Cloud
-1 Faux Fur Pom
-Yarn needle
Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
blo – back loop only
dc dec – double crochet decrease
sl st – slip stitch

7 dc x 3 rows = 2 inches
Pattern Notes:
- Ch 1 will NEVER count as a stitch.
- Ch 3 will ALWAYS count as a dc.
- After crocheting the band, you will have to fold it in half and sl st shut. It is more secure when done through both of the loops and the full ch from the beginning.
- Don’t be intimidated by the blo rows. They are simply the same as any other, just done in one loop instead of two.
- There will be a sl st at the end of each round to join the hat into a round.

Ch 9,
Row 1: work a sc in the second ch from hook and every ch across, ch 1 (8)
Rows 2-58: sc in blo in every stitch across, ch 1 (8)
-Fold band in half so that Row 1 and 58 are touching. Sl st together.
