How to Crochet: Elephant, Sheep Bunny, & Adam & Eve

Elephant

Materials:

-blue medium weight yarn

-black yarn or embroidery thread

-3.5 mm (E) crochet hook

-yarn needle for sewing

Stitches:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

Gauge:

5 single crochet x 5 rows = 1 inch square

Pattern:

Ch 4,

Round 1: 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc, 4sc in last ch, sc in back of next ch, 2sc in last ch, sl st to join. (10)

Round 2: ch 1, 2sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc 4 times, sc, 2sc, 2sc, sl st. (18)

Round 3: ch 1, *2sc, sc* 2 times, 2sc, *2sc, sc* 4 times, 2sc, *2sc, sc* 2 times, sl st to join. (28)

Round 4: ch 1, sc 2, 2sc, sc 2, {hdc, dc, ch 2, hdc}, sl st 3, sc, ch 6, sc in each ch, hdc in same st, hdc 2, 2hdc, hdc 2, 2hdc, sc 5, sl st 2, ch 3,

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Embroider small eye with black yarn or embroidery thread.

Ear:

In magic circle, sc, hdc, dc 8, hdc, sc.

Finish off and sew onto elephant just above center.

Sheep

Material:

-white medium weight yarn

-tan medium weight yarn

-black yarn or embroidery thread

-pink yarn or embroidery thread

-3.5 mm (E) crochet hook

-yarn needle for sewing

Stitches:

Magic circle

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

sk – skip

Gauge:

5 single crochet x 5 rows = 1 inch square

Pattern:

Body:

Ch 5 using white yarn,

Round 1: 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, 4sc in last ch, turn work and crochet on opposite side of ch, sc in next 2 st, 2sc in last st, sl st to join round.

Round 2: ch 1, 2sc in next 2 sts, sc 2, 2sc in next 4 sts, sc 2, 2sc in next 2 sts, sl st to join.

Round 3: ch 1, *2sc, sc* 2 times, sc 2, *2sc, sc* 4 times, sc 2, *2sc, sc* 2 times, sl st to join.

Round 4: ch 1, sk next st, 3dc, sk next st, sl st, *4dc, sk st, sl st, sk st* 6 times, sl st to join.

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto page.

Head:

Round 1: Using tan yarn, work 6sc into a magic circle.

Round 2: 2sc in each st around (12)

Round 3: *2sc, sc* 6 times (18)

Round 4: *2sc, sc 2* 6 times (24)

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto body and page.

Embroider eyes and nose in center of head.

Hair:

Ch 6 using white yarn.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and all chs, turn.

Row 2: ch 1, *3hdc, sl st* 3 times.

Finish off, leaving a tail to sew onto head.

Ears (make 2):

Ch 4 using white yarn.

Row 1: sc across

Sew onto head below hair on either side.

Legs:

Ch 9 using tan yarn,

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across all chs, turn.

Row 2: ch 1, sc, *{sl st, ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st}, sl st* 2 times, sl st 2, *{sl st, ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st} sl st* 2 times, sc in last st.

Finish off and sew under bottom of body, so legs peek out.

Bunny

Materials:

-tan medium weight yarn

-white yarn or embroidery thread

-black yarn or embroidery thread

-pink yarn or embroidery thread

-3.5 mm (E) crochet hook

-yarn needle for sewing

Stitches:

Magic circle

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

hdc2tog – half double crochet 2 stitches together

dc2tog – double crochet 2 stitches together

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

sp – space

Gauge:

5 single crochet x 5 rows = 1 inch square

Pattern:

Round 1: Using tan yarn, work 6sc in magic circle

Round 2: 2sc in each st around (12)

Round 3: *2sc, sc* 6 times (18)

Round 4: *2sc, sc 2* 6 times (24)

Round 5: {sc, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch and next 2, sc}, sc 3, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch, sc in same st, sc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2dc, turn.

Row 6: ch 2, dc 2, hdc 2, turn.

Row 7: ch 1, hdc2tog, dc2tog, turn.

Row 8: ch 4, sc in 2nd ch and next 2, sl st, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch and next 2, sl st.

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Using white yarn, work 3sc into a magic circle, pull tight and sew onto bottom of bunny for tail.

Embroider eye using black yarn or embroidery thread just below row 7.

Embroider nose at the end of row 6 using pink yarn or embroidery thread.

Adam and Eve

Materials:

-tan medium weight yarn

-brown medium weight yarn

-3.5 mm (E) crochet hook

-yarn needle for sewing

Stitches:

Magic circle

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

Gauge:

5 single crochet x 5 rows = 1 inch square

Pattern (make 2 head and shoulder pieces):

Round 1: Using tan yarn, work 6sc in magic circle

Round 2: 2sc in each st (12)

Round 3: *2sc, sc* 6 times (18)

Round 4: *2sc, sc 2* 6 times (24)

Row 5: ch 1, 2sc, sc 2, 2sc, turn.

Rows 6-8: ch 1, sc across, turn.

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Hair for Adam:

Ch 12,

Row 1: sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc 2, sl st, hdc, 5, sc, sl st.

Finish off and sew onto top of head.

Hair for Eve:

Ch 25,

Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook and down every ch.

Finish off and sew onto top of head, so it is even on both sides.

Sew both Adam and Eve onto page.

Bush

Materials:

-green medium weight yarn

-5 mm (H) crochet hook

-yard needle for sewing

Stitches:

dcfc – double crochet foundation chain

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

dc2tog – double crochet 2 stitches together

sl st – slip stitch

sk – skip

st(s) – stitch(es)

Gauge:

4 double crochet x 2 rows = 1 inch square

Pattern:

Row 1: Make a dcfc of 16 sts, turn.

Row 2: ch 2, dc 14, dc2tog, turn.

Row 3: ch 2, dc2tog, dc 11, turn.

Row 4: ch 2, dc2tog, dc10, turn.

Row 5: ch 2, dc2tog, dc 8, dc2tog, turn.

Row 6: ch 1, sc, *sk next st, 5dc, sk next st, sl st* 4 times (this goes in row 6 and down the side), sc in every st across row 1, working up the sides: *sk next sp, 5dc, sk next sp, sl st* 3 times.

Finish off and sew onto page to hide shoulders of Adam and Eve.
