The weather has gotten so cold where I live! Ok…so it’s cold for here. We’re having 40 degree weather, and I’m so cold. I just want to stay inside and snuggle up in a cozy crocheted blanket and drink tea. How about you?
Blankets are such an important part of those cold winter (can I say it’s winter?) nights. And I think it is especially important to make sure our sweet babies are snuggled up in their warm blankets this winter.

The blanket that I designed is a 24″ x 34″ graphgan of a pine tree with a moon above. I love how the WeCrochet Chroma Twist Bulky Yarn in Cousteau gives that night sky look with all of the blues and blacks. It’s just gorgeous! The feel of this yarn is incredible, too. It’s so soft, and will be a favorite to any baby or child who snuggles with it.

Here’s some more information about the Moonshadow Baby Blanket:
Gauge:
11 sts x 8 rows = 4 inch square
Stitch for gauge is sc, then dc, respectably
Blanket is 24 inches x 34 inches
Stitches used in this pattern:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet (this stitch is done around the post/bar of the previous row’s double crochet)
f/o – finish off
I always want to make sure that you are getting all the information you need to crochet a pattern I’ve designed, so always remember to check out the pattern notes. They are there to help you whenever you are stuck!
Pattern Notes:
- Ch 1 will ALWAYS count as a stitch
- Ch 3 will ALWAYS count as a stitch
- This pattern uses the Alpine Stitch. It is a stitch where you have one row of single crochet followed by a row of double crochet stitches alternating as regular and front post stitches. See the tutorial in the pattern to see how this is done properly.
- The pattern has a written style where you will read the directions with a small photo tutorial. It will also have a list of when to color change based on each row. There will also be a chart for you to follow to make sure you are getting the color changes correct.
- For color changing, I recommend dropping yarn and NOT crocheting over yarn. This will require you to use 3 skeins of yarn at a time during most of the pattern.
- The yarn recommended for this pattern is WeCrochet Chroma. It gives this beautiful chrome-style color look to it, and provides a night sky look. You are welcome to sub yarns, however.
- The pattern will be written in crochet shorthand, but here is a translation for you:
- “Ch 3 (counts as st), dc in next st, *fpdc, dc* to end of row, turn.” means “chain 3 (this will count as your first stitch in the row), work a double crochet in the next stitch, *work a double crochet in the front post of the double crochet from 2 rows down, work a double crochet in the next stitch in the current row* (repeat between the asterisks *), turn to begin a new row.”
