Falling Leaves Baby Bonnet Free Crochet Pattern

Hi crochet friend!
Today is another fun pattern release! I’ve joined the Fall Bliss to Winter Warmth blog hop with Itchin’ for some Stitchin’ to bring you a fun Fall pattern: the Falling Leaves Baby Bonnet!

Now this bonnet is free on my blog if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, but TODAY ONLY (11-3-2023) you can get the pattern as a PDF for free! This is such a fun part of a blog hop. Just follow the steps in the Infograph below:

Isn’t that simple? So, before you check it all out, lets get into the details about this pattern.

This beautiful baby bonnet uses a very simple pattern called the Falling Leaves Cluster Stitch. A stitch tutorial for this cluster stitch pattern can be found here.

I decided to try a new yarn that I’ve never tried before for this pattern. Yarn Bee’s Soft Stitch did not disappoint! Though it may split occasionally, the yarn is so soft and perfectly gentle on a baby’s skin. And with Hobby Lobby’s sales, you can get a nice discount every other week!

A 4.5mm (7) crochet hook was used to make this bonnet. I do have a bit of a tight gauge, though, so if you need to go down a hook size to fit my gauge, be sure to do that!

Ok, now you know what you’ll need.(Not much stuff, right?!) Click the button below to find the coupon code:

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern is written for sizes Newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months, and 1-2 years.
  • Pay attention to the gauge, because it is very important for the proper fit.
    • My crochet stitches tend to be tighter than most, so you may end up going down a hook size.
    • Pattern also tested using Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn. Go up a hook size for this yarn. (5mm {H} hook)
    • The brand of yarn can also result in a different gauge.
      • Use yarnsub.com to find the best substitute for yarn used in pattern.
  • This pattern uses the alternative double crochet stitch. You can find a tutorial for this stitch here.
    • For an alternative, you can simply ch 3 and count as a double crochet.
  • Use the following guide for how the number of stitches is communicated:
    • The number before the stitch is the amount of times worked in one stitch
    • The number after the stitch is the number of stitches you are to work that specific stitch into.
    • When stitches are surrounded by brackets [ ], all of those stitches are done in ONE stitch.
    • Ch 1 throughout will NEVER count as a stitch.
    • When stitches are surrounded by asterisks (*), you are to repeat what is between the asterisks the amount of times stated.
    • Number in parentheses is the number of stitches in each round.
    • Eg. ch 1, *[sc, 2dc] in same st, sk 2* 14x, sc in next st, turn. (43) means “chain 1, *work a single crochet and 2 double crochets in the same stitch, skip next 2 stitches*, repeat the pattern between the asterisks 14 times, single crochet in the next stitch, turn your work before starting the next row. (there are 43 stitches in this row)
